WILD PACIFIC ALBACORE: Where to find yours!

 

All custom-canned troll-caught albacore on this page is caught on small family operated vessels that belong to the Western Fishboat Owners Association (WFOA). The processors listed here are also WFOA supporting members who contribute to the American Fishermen's Research Foundation. AFRF, through cooperative research with government and other organizations, has aided and promoted science and education related to Pacific albacore tuna for nearly 40 years.




Northern California:  If you want albacore directly from the fishermen, here's a good source. "We keep a list of the vessels that are selling," says Suzie Howser, the dockmaster at Humboldt Bay Harbor in Eureka. "We encourage the public to call us to inquire about fish; we can give them the name of the boat, where it's docked, what's available, and the price." Howser says this is a free service for their fishing tenants, and they enjoy helping to promote wild-caught products. "We will keep a list in our office of people who want fish, and the first boat that comes in gets the list. If they cannot fill all the orders, they pass it along to the next boat."
